"When you look through the viewfinder, and the world falls away, you are left with your subject, in all their truth and beauty. Through the lens, you focus on the eyes and can't help but start to feel you know your subject in a deeper way. I love portrait photography because I get to know people in a way I would never know otherwise."
Heather has been photographing people and events professionally for over 18 years. After receiving her bachelor's in anthropology, she moved to Portland, Maine to study documentary photography at a master's level at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. Upon graduating, she moved to New Jersey and assisted multiple wedding and portrait photographers for over six years. Through those years, and beyond, she developed her own business photographing weddings, events, portraits, and commercial and publication work.
Heather has always enjoyed documenting the details of life and the beauty that light plays on those details.
"I love how light plays upon an object. It excites me to see and shape the light and shadow on the face, the curves of a body, the texture of food, the expanse of a landscape. It is the light that reflects in a child's eyes, highlights the detail of a stitch in a dress, and ultimately creates the mood in the image."
When she is not behind the camera, Heather can be found catching up on reading, playing the ukulele, baking & cooking, spending time with family, or escaping to a quiet place...among many other things.
How I Capture My World
I love a beautiful portrait that produces an emotional response just by the look in the eyes and the expression on the face.
But, as a mother, I cherish the world of my children when they don't think I'm watching. What looks ordinary to someone else, actually speaks volumes to me. A photograph not only freezes a moment in time, but reflects our lifestyle, values, culture, and mood.
It is nice to get school portraits of the kids, but it is priceless to have images that show their personality and individuality.
This is what I want to create for you!

A Creative Portrait Session
In 2015, we worked with Andy Strohl of Strohl Digital Productions, www.strohldigital.com to create a look into a portrait session. We've photographed these two amazing kids several times and continue to document their growth.
